Born in Porto in 1993, Tiago Sarmento is an actor, author and director. He graduated in Acting from ESMAE in 2014, studied at Northumbria University (Newcastle) through Erasmus, and completed a Master’s in Directing at East 15 Acting School (London), also attending an intensive program at GITIS (Moscow). As a performer, he has worked with directors such as Marco Martins, Nuno Cardoso, Nuno Carinhas, Carlos Pimenta, Beatriz Batarda, Mark Calvert, Emma Roxburgh, João Pedro Vaz, Whit Hertford, George Siena, Lígia Roque, Lee Beagley, Nuno Nunes, Tales Frey, Nuno Pino Custódio and Sónia Barbosa. On screen, he appeared in projects by Lilian Mehrel (Honeyjoon, premiered at Tribeca Film Festival 2025), Patrícia Sequeira, Joaquim Leitão, Salvador Calvo, Vicente Alves do Ó, António Pinhão Botelho, Fanny Ardant, Ana Moreira and Hugo Xavier. He directed the independent shorts Cold Hands and Beatrice, and staged productions including #Falling, A Vertigem dos Nossos Corpos, Welcome, Parque Infantil, Orelha de Deus, Sem Rede and The Curious Incident of the Dead Dog. He created the original fiction series Capitães do Açúcar (RTP1/HBO). Since 2019 he has collaborated with Balleteatro and co‑authored the Basic Theatre Course for ANQEP.
