One of the leading figures in Portuguese culture and cinema, having worked with acclaimed directors such as George Sluizer, Joaquim Leitão, Jorge Silva Melo, João César Monteiro, José Fonseca e Costa, Fernando d’Almeida e Silva, António-Pedro Vasconcelos, Fernando Lopes, Raoul Ruiz, Mário Barroso, Carlos Saboga, Cristèle Alves Meira, Patrícia Sequeira, and Fanny Ardant, among many others.
In 1993, she was part of the cast of Der Blier Familien, directed by Susanne Bier, which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Over the course of her career, she has been recognized numerous times for her work. In 2023, she received a Golden Globe, the Sophia Award, the GDA Foundation’s Film Actors Award, and the SPA Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Alma Viva.
In 2019, she won the Best Actress Award from CinEuphoria for the film Bem Bom, as well as the SPA Award for Cabaret Maxime. In both 2016 and 2017, she was awarded the Portuguese Golden Globe, the Sophia Award, a Los Angeles Movie Award, the Cyprus International Film Festival Award, and the International Filmmaker Festival of World Cinema Award (Milan) for Best Actress for her performance in Jogo de Damas.
